ICE SKATING SEASON IS HERE!  Maggie Daley Ice Ribbon is now open, all other outdoor ice rinks open November 28, 2025 (weather permitting). Get ready for the fun!

Pre-registration is required for all programs at the outdoor rinks, including OPEN SKATE sessions. Learn more & register now: Programs & Registration Information   

Throughout the winter season, you can stay active outdoors while enjoying a fun time with family and friends at one of six outdoor ice rinks located throughout the city. In addition to open skate sessions, most rinks offer programming and some events throughout the season. The indoor ice rinks at McFetridge Sports Center and Morgan Park Sports Center are open year-round. Keep the skating fun going throughout the year at these facilities.

Fees

Open skate fees are listed below. Pre-registration is required. Open to all ages. Open Skate schedules and blocks are subject to change.

All outdoor rinks except Maggie Daley:

  • Admission: Free
  • Skate rental: $7 for all ages
     

Maggie Daley Park Skating Ribbon:

  • Skate Rental Monday-Thursday (Non-Holiday): $17 online | $19 walkup*
  • Skate Rental Friday-Sunday & Holidays: $21 online | $23 walkup*
  • Bring Your Own Skates: Free first session ONLY | $5 all other sessions
  • Skate Aids: $11**

*Walkup sales only if a session is not sold out. No walkup sales if a session is showing sold out online
** No advanced reservations for skate aids – available on a first-come, first served basis on the date and time of your reservations

    The following programs are offered at most rinks except for Maggie Daley. Pre-registration is required

    Open Skate
    Open to all ages. Pre-registration is required. Open Skate schedules and blocks are subject to change.
    Admission listed above. 

    Drop-In Learn to Skate Lessons
    This drop-in session provides instruction on the basics of balance, forward stride, starting, and stopping.  Recreational or hockey helmets, gloves and knee pads are recommended.
    Admission (includes skate rental): $10 

    Senior Skate
    Open skate for ages 50+. Pre-registration is required. Open Skate schedules and blocks are subject to change. Admission: Free. Skate rental: $7 

    Stick & Puck and Pond Hockey 
    This combined program offers 45-minutes of Stick & Puck followed by 45-minutes of Pond Hockey for one price.  All players will be required to wear a helmet (those under 18-years of age must wear a HECC approved helmet with a full-face mask), shin pads, cup and hockey gloves.  Skaters must bring their own equipment, including hockey stick. Youth skaters may be on the ice with supervision.
    Admission (includes skate rental): $8 per person, $10 for adult & child

    • Stick & Puck: Offers open access to the ice specifically for practicing stickhandling, skating and shooting skills. No scrimmage games or slap shots allowed.
    • Pond Hockey Practice: Practice non-contact battling up to 5-on-5 skaters. No slap shots or body checking allowed and hockey helmets are required. The program is open to children and adults and is offered in combination with the Stick & Puck program. 

    Rat Hockey
    Rat hockey is a pick-up game available for players 18-years-old and older.  All players will be required to wear a helmet, shin pads, cup and hockey gloves. Equipment is not provided. Slap shots are allowed. Body checking is not allowed.  A minimum of eight participants are required for rat hockey play. If eight participants are not registered the program will be canceled.
    Admission (includes skate rental): $10

    For all other outdoor rinks, registration will be released on a rolling basis at noon on Mondays, for the sessions that run two weeks later.

    Please read before registering: 

    • Review your registration time and dates
    • Be sure you have selected the correct date, session time and type of reservation (with skate rental or with own skates). Reservations are for a specific date, time and reservation type.
    • No changes or transfers are allowed (date, session time, or name transfers).
    • No refunds are given. All sales are final.
    • There is not a waitlist.
    • Session cancellations:
      If the session reserved has been canceled by management (due to weather, emergency, safety issues, etc.), refunds will be processed. All refunds may take up to five business days to process. Session cancellations are typically made the day of a scheduled session. Cancellations may include the entire day or specific sessions. Visit this page for cancellation information.
    • Session capacity is limited.
    • A select number of reservation types is available. If your reservation type is unavailable, please check back to see if spots open. Reservation spots will not be made available if one reservation type is sold out.
    • Schedules are subject to change.

    Additional Information for All Other Outdoor Rinks:

      • Skate at your own risk.
      • Patrons are required to follow instructions of the Skate Assistants.
      • Skaters are not allowed on the ice when resurfacing is being completed.
      • Skating in a matter that endangers or interferes with the enjoyment experienced by other skaters is strictly prohibited.
      • No horseplay, game playing, excessive speed, roughness or skating in a dangerous or potentially dangerous fashion will be permitted.
      • No throwing snowballs or other objects at any time.
      • Hockey playing is not permitted during public skating sessions.
      • Only people wearing skates are allowed on ice skating rink surface.
      • No more than two people may skate together.
      • Skaters are prohibited from carrying children or secondary items (such as handbags, backpacks, cameras, cell phones, etc.) while on the ice.
      • Always skate with the flow directed by the Skate Assistants.
      • Skaters are to be continually moving and will not be allowed to stop for extended periods while on the ice.
      • No sitting on or leaning over the boards.
      • Eating, drinking and smoking are not permitted on skating surface.
      • No alcohol allowed on the premises.
      • Pets are not allowed on the premises. 
      • Skate rental fee is $7.
      • Skates are available in child’s size 8 through men’s size 12.  Half sizes are not available.
      • Figure and hockey skates are available.
      • Figure skates run true to size, hockey skates run about 1 size bigger than your shoe size.
      • Skate Sharpening is available for $10/pair at the rink rental counter at Midway Plaisance & Warren rinks.

      Skaters can check in 30 minutes before the start of their scheduled session

      Skate trainers/walkers are available for children who are new to skating.  These devices are available on a first-come, first-served basis at all rinks, at no charge.  Please inquire when visiting a rink.

      Sled-assisted skating allows people of all abilities to skate together. These specialty sleds for both children and adults are designed with a foot guard, ABS bucket seat, footrest, and pusher handle. No usage charge.  Reservations are required by calling (312) 442-2194.  Please call to reserve 24 hours prior to your visit to the rink.
